NAMI RAMEN: St. Louis Ridesharing Restaurant Review

Michael loves anime and is currently catching up on Naruto. He has felt a little run-down and angry, which is a good indicator that he needs to practice some self-care to recharge. Since Naruto eats a lot of ramen in the anime, Michael decided to try ramen for himself at Nami Ramen Japanese Restaurant in Clayton.

Clayton is a great place for Michael to stage, since it’s close to home and has a thriving night life. If this restaurant’s food is as tasty as it sounds like it will be, this restaurant will definitely serve as a great place for Michael to eat and stage when he’s working an evening shift, since it’s open every day from 11 AM to 10:30 PM .

Nami Ramen Japanese restaurant, located 46 North Central Ave. in Clayton, MO 63105, parking is a bit hectic, but it’s a Friday downtown Clayton, so many people are out enjoying the night life. Michael was able to find a parking space about a block away.

Upon entering Nami Ramen, Michael was immediately salivating at the smell. This wasn’t the ramen of his broke college days—it actually had a wonderful, real food smell. There are different signature dishes, and the price varies between $14 and $17. While it seems a little high, the other reviews say that it’s worth it. Michael got the signature ramen. The signature ramen consisted of braised pork, wood ear mushrooms, and bamboo shoots. The meal itself was $13.80, and Michael got a Japanese strawberry soda to go with it.

Interestingly enough, Michael had to carbonate the strawberry soda himself. He was given a little carbonation pill to pop in his bottle and get the fizz party started. In addition to fun Japanese soft drinks, they also offer a variety of Japanese alcoholic beverages. Since Michael is driving, he skipped the alcohol; however, if you’re a rider and not a driver, feel free to indulge!

While many restaurants don’t have a seating section for lone diners that doesn’t seem awkward, Nami Ramen has seating for people who are eating alone at the counter and by a window. Like Naruto, Michael chose to eat alone at the counter near the chefs.

While Michael really felt like a shinobi, the seating at the counter was hard and made him feel short because the chairs didn’t quite match the height of the counter. That became less important when Michael began to eat, though.

There’s an American soup that says it’s so hearty, it eats like a meal, but Campbell’s has nothing on this traditional Japanese meal! To begin, it is visually striking, almost like a piece of artwork and not just an everyday meal. The broth was flavorful, the pork, braised with pepper corns, were like are like land mines of spice when Michael bit into them, and the egg was soft-boiled and delicious. The noodles were firmer than other noodles Michael has eaten before; however, since Michael is more familiar with cheap American ramen rather than traditional Japanese cuisine, he realized that the ramen he accustomed to eating left the noodles too soft. Michael’s favorite part was the sheet of seaweed. He described it as tasting like “prime surf in a bowl.”

Upon further consideration of the chair height after eating, it began to make sense to Michael; the counter and chairs are placed at the ideal height to enjoy a soupy meal without wearing it!

NAMI RAMEN: A  St. Louis Ridesharing Destination Summary

Overall, because of the location, flavor, and fun, Smiley Recommends (4/5) Smileys. It is in consideration that while there is a lot of food, the total price for one meal, could feed two rideshare drivers at other establishments. However, for a fun, tasty experience that is not your run-of-the-mill, and to feel like a ninja, Smiley still recommends trying Nami Ramen at least once!
